A family have donated a bench to commemorate Thomas Moloney, a young sapper with the Royal Engineers Field Company, who lost his life whilst laying mines at East Lane on 4th September 1940, at the very young age of 21. The incident was hushed up during the war, but the family are pleased that Thomas's life and sacrifice can now be honoured.
A nephew of Thomas, recently over from Australia with his wife, visited the bench in situ with PC Councillor Tod Heyda and Jenny Webb, with other members of Thomas's family hoping to come and visit in the summer.
Thank you to the Village Hall and Recreation Committee for organising for the bench to be put on the recreation grounds outside the pavilion, a lovely place for people to sit and reflect.
